why i like to drink tea after lunch
Lunch is usually the biggest meal of my day. After eating, I often feel full, a little sleepy, and sometimes just a bit too heavy.
That is when I like to make a pot of tea.
For me, tea after lunch creates a very different feeling. After a few sips, I gradually feel lighter and more comfortable. It is not that the tea magically makes a big meal disappear. It is simply a pleasant way to let my body settle down after eating.

I especially enjoy lightly floral or fresh teas after lunch. A cup of Tieguanyin, for example, can feel refreshing and clean. Wuyi Rock Tea works well for me too when I want something warmer and deeper.
I also notice that I feel less sleepy when I drink tea after lunch. If I skip tea, that familiar afternoon “food coma” can be much stronger. With tea, I usually feel more awake and ready to get back to whatever I am doing.
And I don’t drink it quickly.
That’s probably one of my favorite parts.
I make one pot, drink it slowly, and then brew the leaves again. The second infusion tastes a little different from the first. Then comes another one, and another. There is no need to rush. Sometimes I simply sit there with my tea, and sometimes I continue working while taking a few sips.
Before I realize it, the afternoon has passed.
This is also one reason I enjoy Chinese tea so much. You don’t necessarily need a special occasion or a formal tea ceremony. A simple pot of tea after lunch can be enough.
By late afternoon, I often notice that I am hungry again and ready for dinner. The heavy feeling from lunch is long gone, and I feel much more comfortable.
Of course, everyone reacts to tea differently. Some people may prefer not to drink tea after meals, especially if they are sensitive to caffeine. For me, though, this little afternoon routine has become something I really enjoy.
Lunch, a pot of tea, and a slow afternoon.
Nothing complicated.
Just tea, one infusion after another, until the day moves gently toward dinner.
If you’d like to try the tea I often drink in the afternoon, you can take a look at my [Anxi Tieguanyin]. It’s fresh, floral, and easy to enjoy, just the kind of tea I like to sip slowly after lunch.
