Wuyuanjian Rougui — Wuyi “Cinnamon” Rock Tea
A Tea Named for Its Spice.
Among Wuyi‘s legendary rock teas, Rougui stands apart. Named for its distinctive cinnamon-like aroma, this oolong has earned a devoted following among tea connoisseurs who crave warmth, depth, and complexity in every cup.
Our Rougui comes from Wuyuanjian — a treasured micro-terroir within the Wuyi Mountain region. Here, tea grows on high-altitude slopes where weathered rock and mineral-rich soil give birth to what tea lovers call “Yan Yun” — the “rock rhyme” that defines authentic Wuyi rock tea.
What to Expect: A Flavor That Commands Attention.
-
Aroma: A bold, captivating cinnamon spice leads the way, grounded by warm roasted notes and a subtle mineral depth.
-
Taste: Full-bodied and mellow, with a rich, complex character that coats the palate. The cinnamon is present but never overpowering — balanced, layered, and endlessly intriguing.
-
Finish: Long and lingering, with a gentle sweetness (hui gan) that slowly unfolds. The throat feels warm, soothed, and deeply satisfied.
The Craft Behind the Cup.
This tea is a testament to traditional Wuyi craftsmanship:
-
Hand-picked Leaves: Only the finest leaves are selected at peak season.
-
Traditional Oxidation: Carefully controlled to develop the signature cinnamon character.
-
Charcoal Roasting: A slow, skilful process that adds warmth and depth, locking in the tea‘s distinctive mineral essence.
How to Brew: Let the Rock Speak.
This tea rewards patience and attention. Here‘s how to unlock its full character:
-
Prepare: Use one pouch (approx. 8g) in a gaiwan or small Yixing teapot.
-
Rinse: Quickly rinse the leaves with hot water (95°C / 203°F) and discard.
-
Steep: Brew for 10-15 seconds for the first infusion. Gradually increase steeping time with each subsequent brew.
-
Enjoy: This tea reveals new layers across 8-10 infusions — each cup tells a different story.
