The Legend of Rougui: A Tea Named After Spice.

Among Wuyi’s legendary rock teas, Rougui stands apart. Named for its distinctive cinnamon-like aroma and warm, spicy character, this oolong has earned a devoted following among tea connoisseurs.

Our Rougui comes from Matouyan (Horse Head Rock) — one of the most prized micro-terroirs in the Wuyi Mountain region. Here, tea grows on rocky slopes at high altitudes, absorbing the mineral-rich essence of the weathered cliff soil. This is the source of what tea lovers call “Yan Yun” — the “rock rhyme” that defines Wuyi rock tea.

What to Expect: A Flavor That Commands Attention.

• Aroma: A bold, captivating cinnamon spice leads the way, supported by warm roasted notes and a surprising citrus brightness that lifts the cup.

• Taste: Full-bodied and complex, with a rich, mineral depth that coats the palate. The cinnamon character is present but never overpowering — balanced, layered, and endlessly interesting.

• Finish: Long and lingering, with a gentle sweetness (hui gan) that slowly unfolds. The throat feels warm, soothed, and deeply satisfied.

How to Brew: Let the Rock Speak.

This tea rewards patience and attention. Here’s how to unlock its full character:

1. Prepare: Use 5-7g of tea leaves in a gaiwan or small Yixing teapot.

2. Rinse: Quickly rinse the leaves with hot water (95°C/203°F) and discard.

3. Steep: Brew for 10-15 seconds for the first infusion. Gradually increase steeping time with each subsequent brew.

4. Enjoy: This tea reveals new layers across 8-10 infusions — each cup tells a different story.
